1. Shift your mentality to think positively.
This is a big one. There's a book called the strangest secret, which is a very short and easy read, but explains what the strangest secret is. It is the simple cliche saying of, "You become what you think about." It's crazy because as true as that statement is, it continues to remain a secret due to our inability to gain control of our mind. When we think with negative thoughts, we notice more negative events. It's the perspective that we have our brains tuned to. But when we think about positive thoughts, we notice more positive events. We see more opportunities rather than closed doors. It is a simple shift in perspective that can increase the gap between the average and successful.
2. Demand from yourself and start working out.
This is the easiest way to begin to gain control of your body. When you shift your perspective on trying to enhance your health, it's easier to tell your BRAIN to shut up. It's easier to tell your stomach that, "you don't need that." When I started working out again, I felt refreshed and revitalized. I began intermittent fasting which led me to tame the voice inside my head. We all have a voice in our mind that tries to take the easier and more comfortable route, but you need to remember that you are in control of your brain and this body that we were given. The mechanics of the human body is insane. You were given a body that will do as you demand. Your soul is the artist, and your body is the canvas. Your soul is the sculptor, and your body is the stone. Do not waste this opportunity to show what your soul is capable of. Control your body.
3. Read at least 10 minutes a day.
Yes, not everyone loves reading. But I will leave you with this... Books are one of the few things created by man that have stood the test of time. Take for example the Bible. Each story, each book was once a scroll in a vase in the dead sea and yet the word is still here with us today... a few thousand years later. Any information you attain in school can be acquired through a book.
The book I personally have been putting into practice daily is "The greatest salesman in the world" which a story about a poor camel boy named Hafid who is chosen by his Master to bear the (10) scrolls which made him the greatest salesman in the world. In Scroll number one, it instructs that Hafid stay with each scroll for 30 days. He is to read the scroll first thing in the morning, noon, and once aloud in the evening. In doing so, Hafid will become one with each scroll. Scroll number one is to form good habits and become their slaves. By reading the scroll, Hafid develops his first good habit, reading. This will guarantee, that by practice and application, Hafid will finish each scroll and become the embodiment of them.
This had such a profound impact on me that I now am practicing living with each scroll for 30 days.
4. Create a budget and save to invest.
Money is not everything, but money can make things a whole lot less stressful. I'm not a financial advisor but am speaking out on what has helped me. We live in a society that puts the inanimate object of money to work where you can gain compound interest on just by owning a stock or share of a company.
With where we are currently sitting economically, you may fear that now is not a good time to start. But I'm here to tell you that there's nothing to be afraid about. Just look at everything you buy on a daily basis... is it starbucks coffee, Mc Donalds, Apple products, microsoft, games, and netflix? If those are things that you're buying, why not at least own a little bit of the company?
We are living through one of the greatest transfers of wealth to ever come. I have watched the last stock market crash, researched the internet era, and the housing market crash... Do you know when most millionaires are made? It happens right after a recession. Do you know why? It's because the people who remained consistent, bought more at the bottom and became so obsessed with buying assets.
Don't miss this opportunity because of fear.
Right all your bills down on a piece of paper. Pay yourself $5's to invest in ETF's and when you feel comfortable, pay yourself more and eventually buy index funds. Let compound interest take its course and watch your money grow. And when it grows, you'll wish you invested more instead of just saving your money.
3 Rules
5. Make sure you get rest and let your body recharge.
This is big. You need to make sure that you are giving your body ample time to rest and recover. Sleep affects your mood, hunger, focus, and many more things. But to sacrifice our greatest tool, which is focus, is to sacrifice one's ability to remain disciplined in creating habits that will change your life.
